Trouble in Spain.
London, August 3. The “ Times’ ” Madrid correspondent reports that the rising at Barcelona was organised with extraordinary secrecy and ability. The general strike decreed on Friday commenced on Monday, Barcelona being isolated by the even*ing. The strike movement in Madrid was nipped in the bud, the Government arresting Iglesias and other Socialist leaders, and closing the Socialist headquarters. A great majority of the strikers are honest workmen, who objected to military expeditions. Vienna, August 3. Jaime, head of the Carlists, will remain in Vienna, and states that he will only return to Spain at the head of the army to restore peace in the event of King Alfonso being dethroned. London, August 3. Keir Hardie, M.P., in a delivered yesterday, said that a sordid capitalist war in Morocco justified the Barcelona revolt.
