Ok Thursday next the Pilling Shield will be competed for. It* is expected the Public Hall will be well filled on Thursday evening next, when the P.M.R. Social takes place. Everything in connection with the function will be first-class.
An impor’ant parade of the Piako Mounted Rifles takes plaoo at AVaihou on th 14th inst. The Colonel will be In attendance, apd ftnes will be Btrietly enforced fop non attendance, unless good reason is given, £be Knock Pelt” will be fired for on Saturday next. A meeting of those interested in increasing the strength of the Mata mata troop of the P.M.R. took piaeo ip the farmers’ Union Hall, MataOjUta. on when some 16 persons fipepp prpsent. Captain Tattersall. Lieutenant Campbell, apd Staff Sergt-Major Coleman were in attendance, and addressed those present. Six new members were sworn ip, and some half-a-dozen others promised'to joip. Sergeant Gavin has been placed in charge of the Mata mata troop (lf> strong), for the time being.
