FOOTBALL.

THAMES V. PIAKO

The team selected to play against Piako at Te Aroha on July 24th (leaving Thames by morning train) is as under : Full-back, A. Newdick; three-quarters, Merriman, J. Houghton, F. Hayward ; five-eighths, L. Snowling ; half, Griffin ; wings, W. McCollum, B. Boles ; forwards, J. Crawford, R. McKeown, W. Williams, M. Hayward, P. Clark, H. Hayward, T. Crawford, S. Dobson.

The following team has been chosen to represent the Thames Juniors in their match against Piako Juniors at Te Aroha next Saturday.. In the first match played at Parawai the Thames players won. Backs, G. Crawford, Deeble, Dufty, Dare, Dellimore, Graham ; forwards, Taylor, Taipara, Clark, "Blisserd, Chamberlain, Murphy, Murray, N. Brown, Dann.

Tiiat'well known Te Aroha sport, Mr H. Keesing, has with his usual generosity decided to present a set of football caps to the Te Aroha senior team, in honor of the team winning the P.R.U. Cup.

A meeting of the senior and junior teams is to be called shortly to consider the holding of some sort of a function in connection with the presentation of cups, etc.

The rep. team for Saturday next is composed of members of Te Aroha and Morrinsville teams, the Waihou team deciding to stand out as a protest against the behavour of a section of the crowd towards the selector of the P.R.U. at last Saturday’s match. It is high time this kind of thing was put down with a firm hand, as it only tends to make ill-feeling between players besides killing the game. It is a pity that the Union cannot control and make an example of such offenders. The public will be well catered for on Saturday next. Two rep. matches are set down for the one afternoon. Permission has been granted the Union to make a charge at the gates, viz.: Gents, Is, Ladies 6d.

We regret to hear that the popular and brilliant Waihou back, Mr A. Weir, is confined to his bed through injuries received at the Thames on Saturday week last. He was a big loss to Waihou on Saturday.
