AUCKLAND FOOTBALL

Auckland, July 17. ThE Auckland Rugby Union’s district championship matches were played today in depressing weather conditions. The grounds were sodden as the result of heavy rains yesterday. A light drizzle fell throughout to-day’s matches. In the senior grade Ponsonby defeated City (for the second time this season) by 24 points to 5, The score was no indication of the game, which was evenly and willingly contested. Ponsonby has now practically won the senior grade. The other senior matches resulted as follows: Parnell beat Newton by 14 points to nil, and University beat Grafton by 8 pointsto 3.
