Hospital for Te Aroha.
Hamilton, Tuesday; A DiPUTATION from Te Aroha, consisting of Messrs W. H. Herries, M.P., and R. L. „ Somers, Mayor of Te Aroha, waited upon the Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister in charge of "the Tourist Department) at Hamilton to-day, and asked why the Government had altered its financial arrangements m regard to the retention of a medical officer at Te Aroha. The Minister replied that the Department had been troubled too much with frequent complaints, which appeared to be unreasonable, and often necessitated the taking of legal advice. By placing the officer on subsidy the Department was freed from responsibility. The deputation also referred to the ques tinn of a hospital for Te Aroha, remarking that it was desired that the Govern* rnent should build one. 1 In reply, the Minister stated that the Government’s position had not changed, and if the local people arranged to provide for the running of a hospital, he 1 would endeavour to fulfil, as means would allow, the obligation that was entered into with the previous Estimates. He doubted, however, the Government’s capacity to do so now, because of the Shortage of money.
