FOOTBALL.

MORRINSVILLE v. WAIHOU. Tuk evenness of the three teams engaged in Senior football under the auspices of the Piako Rugby Union this season Was maintained on Saturday last, when Morrinsville met Waihou for tbe thud and concluding time this season, and after a very even game resulted in a draw, neither side scoring There was a good number of enthusiasts present, including two brake loads from Te Aroha, while a fair number of Morrinsville supporters made the trip to witness the struggle. The barracking of the spectators was almost deafening at times and much amusement was caused by two ardent supporters of the rival teams in their efforts to outdo each other in barracking, needless to sav Waihou’s champion won easily. Mr Lawry had charge of the game Bud he succeeded in making the game fast and interesting. Messrs Asbfield and D Shine held the line flags. Two spells of forty minutes were played. Morrinsvihe were favoured with the spin of the coin and Waihou kicked off. Tue Blues returned to half way and at once started attacking and penned the Reds in their 25 for a few minutes eventually Lennard relieved by kicking to half way. Prom the throw in the Blues again got within striking distance and once more Lennard drove them back. A most regrettable incident then occurred, a player from each team being ordered off the field. On resuming Weir found the line in Morrinsville’s 25, the same player essaying at goal shortly after from a free kick without success. The Reds took a hand at attacking and a good forward rush, prominent in which were E. and J Farrow and Comerford, saw play brought to the Blues’ line, Brown and a Waihou player falling on the ball a scrum 5 yards out being the result. Morrinsville cleared their lines and for awhile play hung about midfield, Waihou eventually getting back to the Blues’ 25. The Blues, however, forged their way back, but faulty handling by their backs saw Joe Timmins relieving by kicking out. Play continued to ha fast and interesting. Weir and Joe Timmins wore playing fine rlefensi.o games as also were Page and Hinton, The Bines were beating the Reds in scrums for the ball, the fact that Lennard went into the three-quarter line no doubt being responsible. In line-out play the honours were divided, Comerford and the two Farrows doing splendid work in this respect, while Me [ntire Bros, for the Blues were equally |successful. Play continued to be fast till the whistle sounded half time, play being in mid-field. SECOND SPELL Jack Timmins smartly returned the kick off and the Reds following up fast had the Blues in difficulties. Edkips, who was responsible for a free kick ryliich was awarded the Reds in a good position. Lennard taking .a shot, the Blqes charged successfully and their supporters breathed freely agaiu. Worthington came round a scrum smartly and inaugurated a forward rush, }ii which Dench aid Hogg figured a knock on spoiling the advantage. A lot of give and take play was indulged in and the backs of each side were freely exchanging kicks, very few of which found the line. Gaddes had a shot at goal from a mark, Waihou forcing. Directly after the same player obtained a excellent mark in a good position but Edkins’ kick fell short. From a scrum, Joe Timmins broke away and beat several of the opposing backs, but was not well enough supported and aq almost certain try to Waihpu was lost. Tlip game ghortjy after, ended ia a pointless draw, making the fourth iu succession for Waihou. NOTES.
