In addition to the business reported* in our last issue the following matters were also dealt with : • —Rates Received —
The Clerk reported that outstanding rates were written off as follows ; —Waitoa Riding, 1906-7, £ll 9s 2d; Road Board, 1906-7, £8 Is 2d ; Waitoa Riding 1905-6, £3 12s; R'ad'Board. 1905-6, £1 14s Od , Riding, 1904-5, £5 7s Bd. —Old Bridge Timber— The Supervisor was authoiised to arrange for the sale of old timber from bridges that were being substituted by culverts. • —Travelling Expenses Councillors’ travelling expenses were allowed as follows Chairman £2 10s per meeting ; Cr. Manuel £1 ; Cr. Brady, £1 ; Cr. Hughes, 17s 6d ; Cr. Thomas, 15s ; Cr. Bellamy los." —Kereone Bridge— A good deal of discussion took place re the progress of the work on this bridge. —Cr. Manuel said the dday in pushing through the work was keeping the whole district tack. It was being built out of money voted by the Govomment after the flood two years ago. It looked as if the work was beiug hung up for an indefinite period. He was quite aware there hid been circumstances which militated against the - progress of the work, and for which he felt sorry, but notwithstanding this thewoikhad not been pushed on. —The Council decided to take over the work, and the matter was left iu the hands of the Chairman, Cr. i Manual, and the Supervisor.
—Walton-Kiwitahi Road
, Super visoi instructed to prepare plans and get 200 chains graded. —Scotchman’s Valley BridgePlans are to be prepared and tenders called for a loan bridge at Bridgman’s Tauwharo-Scotchman's Valley Road. —Walton Bridge Thb plans were approved of, and tenders authorised to be called for Valley Road Bridge, at Walton. Tenders returnable at next meeting. —No, 8 Road, Waitoa— Decided to call for tenders for work on this road.
—An Apology— Mr D. Foughey, of Gordon, wrote, stating that he failed to see Council’s right to put men and horses at work on his property.—The Chairman reported what the Committee had done. They had put back stones that had been deposited in the wro.-g channel, and made it so as tho water would go down the original channel. The Chairman s-iid they certainly ought not to have gone on Mr Foughey’s property without fi'st getting permission, and he moved that an apology be tendered to Mr Foughey for the transgression.- Carried. —Mr Borrie’s Drain It was resolved on the motion of Cr. T. Bdlamy, seconded by Cr. Hughes that the Council inspect certain draius running through Mr Borrjc’s property. —Ppi§onpfi Wheivf — Th Clerk asked if the Couneil intended to suotily ipoisonod wheat os formerly. He had received several applications for satno, - Cr, Brady said it was only throwing money away.-Tho Chairman : I think so too.—Cr. Bellamy said he thought the Council should do so. Cr. Brndy contended that the Council might just as well get rabbit poison.—’Cr. Thomas moved that £l2 10s be spent this —Cr. Bellamy seconded Cr.. Manuel thought that if farmers wanted poisouel grain th?y should buy it. —On bjing put the motion was lod. Crs Bellamy, Thomas, and Hughes voting for it, and Crs. Manuel, Bracjy, and the Cjiajrmqq ugiunsc 'tfie motion. Tfie Chairman decided (he question by his casting vote.
