Wellington, June 7. Mr Massey has decided not to attend the Defence Conference. On this question he makes the f dlowing statement: —“It ought to bo iemarked that I bavo received no offic al invitation to the Imperial Defence Conference, and I have not been consulted on the subject by Sir Joseph Ward. I have thought the matter out very carefully, and have come to the conclusion in existing circumstances. even if an invitation reached me, I should not be justified in ac j cepting it.
