Butter and Cheese.
Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., are in receipt of the following market report from their London Principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, datSd 2/4/09. Weather is much brighter, although the winds are cold. A week of such weather as we are to-day experiencing will help all outdoor work very materially. Danish. —Quotation has been reduced five kroriers. Siberian.—Arrivals in London this ■ week were under 2,000 casks, less than half being finest. In spite of such small arrivals prices are down several shillings, and 100/- is now an extreme quotation. French.—Prices are unchanged but orders are not coming in freely. There is some talk of a drop in quotations for next week, but the demand in France during Lett is large and prevents any serious reduction, particularly on finest, which is none too plentiful. : Aiistralian. —Quantity of finest now arriving is very small, and clears. Secondary grades are selling slowly at • the reduction on last week’s prices. New Zealand.—Buyers are adopting a “ hand to mouth ” policy and are only buj’ing when actually obliged. Cheese : New Zealand.—Holders are firm in price. Coloured' is clearing, but white continues rather slow of sale at quotations. Sixpence or one shilling less would bring on quite a trade.
