MORRINSVILLE
(Own Correspondent) ,The Senior Cup match played here on ; Saturday, Waiorongomai v. Morrins- ' ville, resulted in a win for Morrinsville by 14 points to nil. There was a strong wind blowing which was agaiDst good football. Morrinsville had the wind behind, them the first spell and only succeeded in scoring two tries, they, j however, played much better in the ] second half and put on two more tries one of which Gaddes converted. Edkins, Gaddes, C. and J. Mclntyre scored i tries, Gaddes converting one. Mr H. Johnstone • gave every satisfaction as referee and the game was played in the best of spirits. There wes a good number of ladies present to witness the game. The local Anglican Ladies’ Guild are fortunate in having a supporter like Mr Howden, of Hamilton, who has donated a very handsome paper knife as a prize in the ladies’ nail.driving competition at th ) forthcoming fancy fair. The ladies are now devoting two afternoons a week in preparing articles for disposal at the fair and judging by the quantity already on band they have not bad many idle moments. Ranks’ team 8 are at present gravelling the main road near the Piako Hill, which should now be in good Order for the winter. The weather has been very changeable of late. On Saturday quite a gale was blowing from" the south-west, which though it dried the roads wonderfully was very hard on stock. Sunday and Monday mornings there were good frosts. A few of the local members of the Piako Mounted Rifles were out on Saturday practising for the various competitions which will be held during the camp in June. On Saturday morning the unusual sight of a fine cock pheasant strutting about, was to be seen in the railway station yard. After escaping from the contents of a shot gun it flew to the vicinity of our local “ Medico’s,” where it stopped for treatment. The final for the racket presented by Messrs 0. and A. Gurumer fc r competition by the gentlemen membrrs of the Tennis Club, was played on Saturday when Bryers owing (10), played Hogg (20), and after a good match Hogg won by one point. The ladies’ competition was completed some time ago. There was only a small attendance at the Ladies’ Hockey Club meeting, which was calhd for Monday afternoon, and although those present were somewhat dis ippointed at the small attendance, it was'decided to adjourn the meeting till la ter .in the season, when if there are 1 sufficient players, the Club will ,be reformed.
Property still continues to change hands. Mr |L. Corbett has disposed of hi* farm to Mr Geo. Manning', Junr.. at a satisfactory figure. Mr Corbett does not intent leaving the district.. Some eight or ten Avhitei birds which appeared to be seagulls, were observed hereon Sunday. They were noticed to alight on some ploughed ground ; probably the rough weather had driven them inland.
The afternoon express was over an h >ur late on Monday, owing to a numh r of trucks of a ballast train beeomi Jg derailed to the South of Te Awamutu.

The Tennis Club’s Euchre Party, which was held on Tuesday evening proved most enjoyable. Miss Manuel won the lady’s priz \an umbrella. Four 1-dies tied for lowest in the cut. off. Mrs Layne was awarded the “ booby ” prize. Mr Hogg winning the most gam°s of the gents. Dr. S ville, president of the Club, in an appropriate speech thanked the ge its for the pleasant evening, and also Mes rs C. and W. Gummer, who had donated the racquet for competition. r e then called on Mrs C. Gummer to present Mrs Jones, winner of the ladies section, and Mr Hogg, winner of the gents, with the racquets. Mrs Gummer then presented the racquets, and congratulated the winners on their success, and a most eujoyable evening came to a close shortly after 12 o’clock. l
