Horses : On Friday, at the Durham Yards horses were raided in less than average numbers. Hi avy draughts sold at from '£‘22 to £2B Ids ; nndium, do., £ls to £29 10s; backs and light harness horses, £8 10s to £l4 10s; spring-cart, £lO 10s; dogcart, £lO. At Papakura on Wednesday there was a large muster of cattle of all classes, which sold under improved competition, everything with few exceptions changing hands. D*irv cows so’d at from £4 5s to £9; heifers, £3 10s to £7 Ids; backward springers, £2 10s to £3 17s (id ; empty cows. £2 Is to £3 2s (3d. The advertised ldOjgrown steers realised from £d ds to £6 ds ; two to three year-old steers, £3 17s Gd t > £d Is (id ; 18 uk nths to two year-old do., £2 2s (id to £3 Ids ; calves. Ids to 33s 6d. There was on extra large yarding- of beef, which sold at New market rates.
Cattle : At the Newmarket yards on Tuesday cattle of all descriptions wc'c penned in average numbers. Dairy cows sold at from £3 15s to £(3 10s ; empty £2 cows. £2 17s 6d ; calves, 15s to £ll6*. The beef pens weie filled with cattle of nice quality. Prices showed no improvement on last wtek’s rates, although the market was a little firmer. Oxen sold to 20s per 100 pounds and cows 17s to 19s. Steers sold from £5 17s til to £9 10s; cows, £3 10s to £O.
Sheep : Sheep were yarded in average numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday. Wethers sold at from 9s 9d to 15s Gd ; ewes, 9s to 14s Gd ; hoggets, 8s 9d to 13s ; lambs, (3s to 14s 3d, The advertised store ewes sold at from 10s (3d to 11s 9d.
Pigs : Porkers sold at from 18s 9d to £1 78; weaners, 5s (id to 13s (id; baconers, £1 18s to £2 (is. We submitted and sold large catalogues of hides, skins, and tallow on Tuesday, all lines meet-'ng with good competition at late rates.
Sheepskins : Market firm. Best butchers’ skins, large to s*. good lines, 3s 6d to 4s 3d, small Is 9d to 2s Gd ; lambs and pelts, 3s 3d to 3s lOd ; seconds, 2s Gd to 2s 9d. *
Tallow : Market easier. Best mixed, to 24s Gd ; good, 21s Gd to 22s 9d ; inferior, 14s Gd to 20s ; rough fat, 1M ter lb.
Bones, £4 15s. Cowstails, Is 8d per dozen. Horsehair, Is 3]d to Is Gd. Wheat: Wheat: Wheat is selling freely at 4s 9d ex store. Oats : The market is firm at 2s 3d and 2s 4d ex store. Maize: A small shipment arrived this week and sold at 4s 7d on wharf. Chaff : Southern is in good demand at £4 log ex store. Barley : Barley is selling at 2s 9d ex store.
Potatoes; Local are neglected and Southern are worth £4 15s ex store.
Onions ; Onions are in good demand dt £6Wji. 9nd per lb for choice separator. Firstgrade separator. 8-Jd; second grade, slow of sale at 7d to 7ld. Cheese : Farmers’ is slow of sale at sd; factor}-, s|d. * 1 Fungus is worth sd.
