Constable's Gruesome Task.
Whangauei, May 14. - Coxstam.e Douglas, of Hikurangi, had to perform a gruesome task yesterday. The body of a Maori iman, who had been dead some time whs found in a whare in the heart of the Puhipuhi bush, and 88 the other Maoris refused to 'have anything to do with the body, the constable had to carry it on his saddle over four miles. A verdict was returned at the inquest to the effect “ that deceased died from want of nourishment.” The Charitable Aid Board undertook the funeral arrangements.
