London, May 11. In the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for War (Mr Haldane), in reply to a question by Major Ashley (Conservative member for Blackpool) relative to the flying of the Union Jack from Government offices on Empire Day, May 24, said he did not think the Empire was held together by the flag flying. The answer was greeted by Ministerial Labour cheers.
