A large number of weilders of the racket were present at the local courts on Wednesday afternoon, aud a number of enjoyable games were played as is usual with the Tennis Club. A. very enjoyable afternoon tea was provided. A special meeting of the Tov n Board was held on Thursday evening for the purpose of adopting the permanent levels as delineated on the plan by Mr Sims, there being no objectors this was formally done and the meeting adjourned. In the semi final in the gents’ competition for the racket presented by Messrs C. and A. Gummer, W. Hogg 20 beat B, C, Allen, scr., 9. Hogg now meets Bryers and a good game should result.

Messrs Rudd, flaxmill contractors, have leased the scutching portion of Messrs Parlour and Co’s mill and are starting work on Monday, the fibre being stripped at IJarbottle’s and then carted here to be scutched.
