THE COTTAGE HOSPITAL, ETC.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —T was very pleased, as a constant reader of your vei*y interesting paper, at the correspondence referring to the C 'ttage Hospital. The Rev. Cleary takes up the right note by asking why people should be put to the expense of going to the Hamilton Hospital and also in asking support for your paper as you have so constantly advocated the building- of an Hospital and allowed the free use of your Journal to discuss local questions of every shade of opinion. I am sure the people of this district must agree with Mr Montgomery, Revs. | Cleary and Dukes when they say you are , deserving of the best tbanlrs of the publ’c and also its support. We all agree that the Government should build an hospital, especially seeing the way the Local Body courts danger. Time and again have visitors and tourists drawn our attention to the real danger of allowing the Coach Proprietors to block the main street, but apparently there is some power behind the scenes who are able to control our local constable from doing his duty In other boroughs if a cart is stationary for a few minutes the owner is summoned for obstruction and justly so, for the lives of the people are f endangered but there appears to be no respect for Jife here. So far we have been very fortunate : to escape, but there can be no question that this will not continue, and when the 1 crash does occur you will require the ■ Cottage Hospital at your door alright, bes’des the ratepayers will wonder what is the matter at the amount of damage they will have to pay, and I am quite certain our policeman will never forget ■ it, for any Jury will want to know why he did not do bis duty. I hope this question of an Hospital will not be * allowed to fizzle out and that Mr Mont I gomery, Rev. Cleary, and yourself will | stick to your guns and keep at it until ; you rouse the Government to a sense of their duty to this place with its growing population. - I am, etc.,

Cottage Hospital.
