University Boat Race
WIN FOR OXFORD A SPIRITED CONTEST. London, April 3. Tub Uniuersity boat race between Oxford and Cambridge was rowed on the Thames yesterday, from Putney to Mortlake, Oxfoid winning by three lengths.
London, April 4. Cambridge, winning the toss, chose the Surrey side of the river, and at Harrod’s soap works had established a lead of half a-length. Oxford then come on again, the boats shooting Hammersmith Bridge on level terms. A neck-and**neck struggle for five minutes followed, ending in Oxford establishing a lead of half-a-length. C. ;rand spurt at Barnes’ Bridge, and demonstrated that his crew were the better stayers, Cambridge being rowed out.
D. 0. Stuart (Cambridge) then stroked a plucky spurt, it proving useless, however, to avert defeat. The time was 19m. 50s.
