TELEGRAM TO PRIME MINISTER.
FROM THE BOROUGH COUNCIL The following telegram signed ly the Mayor and Town Clerk, has been despatched to Sir J. G. Ward : “ We have pleasure in forwarding you the following copy of a resolution adopted by the Council last evening : “ That the Council heartily approve of the offer of Government to present a line of ba'tleship to the Imperial Government, and that the heartiest congratulations of the Burgesses of Thames be conveyed to the Right Hon. the Premier for conceiving the important proposal and acting so promptly thereon. ’
HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL’S OPINION. A GERMAN SPY IN NEW ZEA- ! LAND. Hamilton, March 27. The Borough Council last, night passed the following resolution “ That this Council being of opinion the time has arrived .to institute a system of universal military training from 18 to 21 years of age in this Dominion, the Council respectfully urges the Government to give the> question early and serious consideration.”
During the discussion the Mayor said it was not generally a German spy was recently in NewZealand mapping out roads, etc. In discussing the Dreadnought offer one speaker said that it was probable if war did take place it would be in the English Channel or North Sea, and this fact was a further reason for the justification of New Zealand offering Great Britain a battleship.
