Piako Mounted Rifles.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of members of the Piako Mounted Rifles took place in the Orderly Room, Whitaker-street. Te Aroha, on Saturday evening last. Lieut. Campbell occupied the chair. There was a good attendance of all ranks. The Seretary (Sergt.-Major Tattersall) read the balance-sheet, which proved of a highly satisfactory nature. —On the motion of Tr. Howie seconded by Tr. Horn, it 1 was resolved that the balancesheet as read be adopted, and that a copy of same be placed in the Orderly Room for the perusal of members. It was decided that QuartermasterSergeant Devey and Corporal Coopor be a Finance Committee.

I Resolved that the Shooting Committee 1 include representations from Te Aroha, Waitoa, Morrinsville, and Matauiata. The following were elected : —Te Aroha : Quartermaster - Sergeant Devey and Sergeant Maingay; Waitoa : < .orp >ral i Cooper and Tr. Bellamy ; Morrinsville : Tr. Seales: Matamata : Sergeant Taylor. Lieut Campbell and Lieut. Rowe were appointed auditors # It was decided that Sergt.-Major Tattersall be re-appointed Secretary of the Company at the same remunera-Quartermaster-Sergeant Devey said he considered it would be advisable to hold the competition for the Knock and Heather-Roberton Belts, annually, instead of half-yearly as at present. He moved accordingly.-Tr. Scott seconded, and on being put was carried unani moußly.—The alteration is, of course, subject to the consent of the donor. It was also resolved on the motion of Quartermaster-Sergeant Devey, seconded by Tr. Farmer, that the cost of the medals to be presented to Belt winners must not exceed £2. It was mentioned that trophies had been received from Mr Starkey, Mr Somers, and others, so that there would be plenty of shooting during the next few months. It was resolved on the motion of Lieut Rowe, seconded by Sergt. Given, that tho squadron take steps to secure a section on which to erect an Orderly Room.

The question of electing a Captain was discussed at somo length, and it was eventually agreed on the motion of Quartermaster-Sergeant Devey, seconded by Corp. Given that the election of a Captain take place at Waiata on April 3rd.

The Chairman urged upon members the necessity of having a full parade, otherwise it would be ulawful to elect a Captain. Both Lieut. Campbell and Sergt.Major Tattersall are candidates for the captaincy. Before the meeting dispersed Lieut. Campbell presented the HeatherRoberton Belt to Tr. Bellamy, congratulating him on his success.
