London, March 11. Mr Justice Grantham, of the King’s Bench division, commenced hearing the libel action brought by J. G. Jenkins, late South Australian Agent-General, against the. Australian Trading World for circulating in January, 1908, a groundless rumour that he was to be replaced, and alleging that his Agent-General-ship had not been successful, that he had caused dissatisfaction in South Australia owing to him lacking in energy and enthusiasm. Harney (a West Australian) Jenkin s council attributed the libel to Jenkin’s refusal to give paper advertisements. London, March 11. The editor of the “Australian Trading World ” admitted writing to Jenkins several requests for advertisements in which he hinted that naturally he supported those who supported his paper. Justice Grantham summed up heavily against the paper. Jonkins, who asked for heavy damages, was awarded £25 with costs £SOO.
