LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The annual meeting of the Piako Mounted Rifles takes place on Saturday evening next. Those interested in starting a Cooperative Bacon Factory are invited to attend a meeting in the Waihou Public Hall on Friday evening next, March 12th. The meeting is convened by Mr J. Lennard.

The mill is fitted up with the most ap proved appliances, and no needless waste of time is indulged in. Last month a record amount of fibre was turned out, and at the rate the raw material is going through the March month should eclipse everything. To the married and those about to be married, Hetheringtons Ltd., have a notice of special importance. The firm announce the latest in bedsteads and bedding, oilcloths, linoleums, carpets, hearthrugs, mats and hassocks,, all of which are offered at bed-rock prices. The Katikati settlers are complain ing bitterly of the want of water. In some instances drinking water has to be carried a considerable distance. The district has a bumt-up appearance, and is surrounded wi ll smoke from bush fires.—Waihi Telegraph.
