Fire in a Theatre.
CAUSED BY CINEMATOGRAPH * TAKING FIRE. 300 LIVES LOST. Mexico, February 16. Details of the fire at the Acapulco show that the disaster occurred during the progress of a gala performance in honour of the Governor of the Province. The theatre was a wooden building, and the blaze spread with amazing rapidity. The outbreak was caused by the cinematograph taking fire. The audience numbered a thousand, including members of the oldest families in the district. When the outbreak occurred there wss a great stampede for the only three exits with which the building was provided. The exits quickly became blocked by the struggling mass of humanity, and a terrible panic followed among those penned in within the burning building. Seven hundred escaped, but the remaining three hundred were burned or trampled to death. Many victims have been incenerated in this number, including many German residents.
