Messrs E. Geikeiths & Co. are in receipt of the following butter market report from their Loudon Principals Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated Ist January 1909: Weather’—Since we last wrote we have had a day or two of very cold weather, but to-day there is in many districts quite a sudden thaw, Danish. —The trade at the reduction was pretty heavy and prices have advanced both here and in Copenhagen, the advance in Denmark being one kroner, while on this side 2s to 3s from the lowest is being made. Siberian.—A few finest have r alised full figures and in some cases 2s over last week, but slightly easier prices are being taken for the stored, and there is a better trade at the reduction. French.—t-'now has f.dlen all over
Normanby and prices have jumped up very rapidly in all the country districts. On this side quotations have advanced fid per dozen pounds on Fresh rolls and 4* per cwt on salt and unsalted baskets and firkins. Trade at the increased figurts is low.
Australian - The colder weather has bad a beneficial effect on the market and prices at the elo-e are fully 2s to 3s higher, aud still firmer prices are antjcL pitted for the arrival per s.s M'Wian, now due, although the sudden thaw has caused buyers in some instances to hold back, The s.s Ortoua shipment is well cleared.
Mew Zealand..—The s.s Papajoa fa rer ported to be on fire.
