Sheep Fair at Obaupo
The appended report of the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company is only just to hand : We held our first sheep fair of the season at Ohaupo last "Wednesday, February 4th, and have to report one of the most successful sales we have yet held. There was a "large attendance from all parts of the Auckland province, and buyers being plentiful bidding was brisk from start to finish. The sheep penned were a good lot. the lambs in particular being of good quality, well grown, and in forward condition and they met with keen competition as did also any 2,4, and six tooth ewes. Twenty thousand five hundred and fifty sheep were penned, made up of 11,362 ewes, 6323 lambs, and 2872 wethers. We quote: Fat sheep, wethers, 13s Id to 14s Id ; ewes, 12s ; lambs, 12s to 13s; two tooth ewes, 14s 2d to 17s 6d ; small sheep, 9s lOd to 13s 6d ; four and six tooth ewes, 14s 2d to 17s ; fresh full mouthed ewes, 10s Id to 12s 9d ; aged ewes, 6s Id to 9s 6d; culls, 2s6d to4s7d; wolly lambs, fat .and forward, 9s to lls3d; less condition, 7s to 8s 6d ; others, 4s 7d to 6s 3d; shorn lambs. 8s 2d to 8s lOd; two tooth wethers, 10s lOd t0126d; four tooth wethers, 13s. -About 350 rams of all classes were yarded, and 160 were sold. Two-tooth Southdown from Government farm sold from 2igs to 4fgs ; two tooth Leicesters,. from same place, 2gs to 3fgs. From other clients : English Leicesters ,3|gs to 4gs; 2 tooth Romneys, to 4gs2 and 4 tooth Shropshires, *jgs to 2rjgs ; 2 tooth Lincolns, 3£gs to sgs; aged rams from 2s 6d to 1 Is.
