MORRINSVILLE

, Own Correspondent. I —lnclement Weather— Thu heavy rain which fell all day Friday had the effect of greatly interfering with the holiday arrangements, a large number having intended to visit the Te Aroha Show, while the Taupiri Cricketers came . up with the intention of playing a match ' with the local Club. Play however was out of the question, so they proceeded to Te Aroha and indulged in a bath, returning home by the excursion train. Ihe rain wil do an immense amount of good, although it will hinder harvesting 1 (perations considerably. t —Telephone Installation— The Telephone gang of workmen have just finished the work of connecting the Local Office with Te Aroha. which will be of great convenience to subscribers. ; —Obituary - I It is my sad duty to report yet another death in our midst, the infant son of Mr George Brown passing away on Saturday afternoon. The little fellow had been suffering with an infantile complaint which is at present }re valent amongst the younger children, and was seven months old. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the residents in their sad bereavement. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon.

j —Oddfellows Lodge— The Loyal Momnsville Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., hold their usual fortnightly meeting on Tuesday next, when a large attendance of members is expected. The social portion of the evening will be devoted to impromptu speaking. —Want of a Bridge—

The want of a bridge oyer the Piako on the Kereone Road, is much felt, as practically all the trade from that portion of the district is lost to the town owing to the lack «f means of communication. —Wedding Bells— A member of a popular firm of provi- , ders, returned home on Saturday, to ■ commence house-keeping on his" own ■ account, having taken a fair partner for better or for worse, and was duly • serenaded by the local Band, and all j gcod wishes were*' expressed /for their I future happiness An adjournment was made to the Castle, where the health of j the happy couple was enthusiastically drunk. —Stock Sales There was a fair yarding of stock at the local yards on Saturday. Cattle sold well, sheep being not in demand were dull of sale. As an evidence of the excellent feeding properties of this district, and Kiwitahi iu particular, a line of wethers was purchased in the local yards bv Mr F. J. Marshall and fattened by Mr Jas. Bell, specimens of which turned the scale at ninety four pounds dressed, which speaks well for Mr Bell’s farming. —Progres s of Morrinsville— The town continues to forge ahead. A house and section changed hands during the week at a satisfactory figure, and Mr Ellis has the timber on the ground for his residence in Studholme- street. —Projected Bone Mill— And a gentleman visited here during the week, with a view of getting a site to erect a bone mill, which should be of great convenience to farmers, being able to get bone dust, etc., at a reduced rate. —Favourable Progress of Messrs Truss and Duxfield— Friends of Mr J. Truss will bo interested to learn that although he is making steady progress it will be some considerable time before he can dispense with his crutches, the break having been a very bad one. Mr Duxfield, who is under Dr. Seville’s care is also making good progress. It will be remembered, he also broke his leg and twisted his knee.
