P.M.R. Challenge Cup

Conditions of Competition for the Challenge Cup, presented to the P.M.R. by J. B. Starkey, Esq.

I. The Cup will be competed for by fours, and cannot be won outright, but will be fired for annually at such time and place as the O.C. Squadron will decide. The first competition will take place at AVaiata on Saturday, March 20, 1909. 11. No more than one N.C.O. (the leader) will be in any four and no member can compete in more than one four. Members of fours must have attended the week’s training camp to be eligible to compete (excepting those recruits who join prior to the last quarter of the volunteer year). 111. Ammunition, 10 rounds will be issued to No. 1,2, and 4, and o rounds to No. 3. Judging Distance The jour loaders will judge distances at the first and last tiring points, and No. 2at the | second tiring point. 2b points will be awarded for the eorr.et distances at the throe tiring points. For every bO yards or fraction of b 0 jards over or under correct distance two points will be deducted. 111. Shooting - Hits on man will count b, Hits on horse will count <‘i, and on rest of target 1. IV. Cover.—b points will be awarded at each tiring point for the manner iu which tho led horses ars placed under the nearest cover available by the troopin' holding horses

On command from P.O “ walk march ’’ tlm four will move off by order of four leader, extending on the move to 5 foot between files aud move to first firing point where the odd number will dismount, hand horses to even numbers, who will place horses under cover. The odd numbers will fire five rounds and will then ruu in to horses, mount, and ride to second firing point where even numbers will dismount, hand horse to odd numbers who will placo horses under cover. The even numbers will tiro five rounds, run on to horses, mount and ride to third firing point, where No. 1,2 and 4 will dismount, hand horse to No. :j who will place horses under cover. No. 1,2 and 4 will fire five rounds, run on to horses, mount, aud ride to starting point. Time will be taken from the word walk march to return to starting point (on word halt). Arms will be examined prior to moving off and on returning to starting point by 5.0., aud any member of four who has his magazine charged before starting or on returning his four will be disqualified. j
