GTS HOUSES DESTROYED, London, January 21. Ax alarmiug earthq ake was ex perienced in Phocea, Asia Minor yesterday. shocks being very severe. A total of 070 houses were destroyed but so far as is kuowu no lives were lost.

[Phocea stauds on the Egetu sea about 28 miles northwest of the chief cities of lonia, but the inhabitants emigrated lin large numbers after an attack by Cyrus the Great, and its population is now that of a snnll village.— Ed.]
