[To the Editor.]
Sir, —As an outsider I should&like to make a few remarks on the Te Aroha Fire Brigade sports, which I had the pleasure of witnessing last New Year’s Day. I may say that it has been my pleasure to visit a great number of Fire Brigade sports, in different parts of New Zealand, and I can say without fear of contradiction that the sports I witnessed on New Year’s Day compare very favourably with any I have seen; and I think that the Fire Brigade deserves all sorts of credit for the very able manner in which the different items were'managed in that, their first attempt. There is no gainsaying it but you will always find some one who is always ready to try and belittle the labours of others, but as we will always have croakers amohgst us, is it not as well to treat them with the contempt which they deserve. I only hope that I may have the pleasure of again witnessing the Fire Brigade sports next New Year’s day.—l am, etc., Old Sport
