KENRICK-STREET LAGOON.
(To the Editor.)
Bib, —I was rather amused at reading a letter signed Ratepayer in Tuesday’s issue, and think perhaps a little explanation of what, really took place at the Council meeting may relieve his mind. Cr. Hubbard suggested piping at the foot of Kenrick-street where, a* I said, at the meeting there was only clean water running which is the overflow front 'Mr Wallace’s pelton wheel, while I, think even if there was a little offensive matter there is quite enough flow of water to keep the drain clean. I was: against piping this particular place and said that if any place is piped in . the lagoon jit ought to be through JDr.Kenny’s section right up to the Band room. I was in favour of doing this and think, it is one of the first places that wants d( ing. As regards the ratepajfffrs ins nuafcion about the water which flows down Whitaker-sircet this takes the drainage from the full length of the street and I hardly think it fair to put the blame on anyone place for all the “ dirty water” down the channel Ratepayer says that if I am afraid to speak the sooner the election comes the, better. If it pleases ratepayer I may as well inform him that I have no intention of again standing for election so that he need not bother his head about voting against me, and that I am not afraid to speak my mind nor ashamed of my name which ratepayer must be of his or he would have signed it to his letter,—l am, etc.,
John Rowe.
