The result of the election, as far as this electorate was concerned, was anticipated by a great many of those best capable of judging, and, as expected, Mr W. H. Herrics, well and favourably known throughout the Dominion speak in high terms of Mr Herrics as a politician, and wc have every reasou to be proud of him.

The Te Aroha Dairy Company has an opening for two active lads. Captain Young, of the Government veterinarian staff, Taranaki, has been spending a few days in our midst. Horse to be sold in the pound to-day at noon.

The Tourist Department, amongst other things, are pushing on the work of laying down the new asphalt tennis court. When completed this will prove a welcome addition to our Domain grounds.

Mr Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland) speaking at Bristol, declared that the Licensing Bill did not concern the House of Lords. They would be treading on very dangerous ground if they rejected the Bill.

The strongest note in “ The New Idea ” for November is its fiction, in which department the editor is evidently striving to maintain a very high standard. One charming story is from the pen of a daughter of “Hop, the most famous caricaturist in Australia, whilst “ A Woman’s Quest ” is a modern fable with an old moral. Next to the fiction come the fashions, which are particularly useful. Included are free paper patterns of various garments, ana a number ot pages of designs showing the very latest and best things m the world of dress. Next come the housekeeper s pages, replete with advice and directions on a score of subjects, such as cookery, furnishing, making and mending, and practical advise. Finally, there are the serials and the special articles. Chief among the latter is an account of a visit to a chicken-farm, written and illustrated by W- A. Somerset, who has gathered together not only a cluster of fine pictures, but a lot of good, useful advice on the rearing of white Leghorns. The doings of Borne Royalties and other notable people are told in picture and prose, and a fine lot of little Christmas gifts are pictured— with instructions for then making. This Australasian magazine for women continues to be a wonderfu sixpenn’orth, and easily leads all the imported women’s journals.

Mr W- H. Herrles, M. P. for Tauranga electorate, returns thanks elsewhsre m this issue for the lejewel confidence placed in him by electing him as their representative on the Parliament of the Dominion. Mr H rides expresses his determination to warrant the very generous support received from all pol ling places.
