MORRINSVILLE
Own Correspondent. Miss Andekson Hughes gave a lecture on the Temperance Question in the Phoenix Hall, on Monday evening. Mr S. S. Allen was chairman and there was a packed house. Miss Hughes spoke for upwards of two hours and was listened to with marked attention. At the conclusion. A number of questions were asked and ably dealt with by Miss Hughes, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, and the usual compliment to the chair concluded the meeting. Election day here was fairly quiet the most interest being taken in the licensing poll, a number of buggies and other conueyances conveyed the voters to the polling place, the voting being very steady all day. Mr Herries getting a majority of one, while the no - license was carried by three - fifths and four over. A large number waited at the Post Office till midnight awaiting the results, as each favourable return came in cheers were given and some budding politicians were in very good form, speech-making being the order of the night.
