More than a million new books are to be published during the autumn season.

The fiftieth anniversary of the admission cf Jews into Parliament has just been celebrated in London. It was on July 23, 1828, that the royal assent was given to the bill which removed the civic disabilities of Jews. Three days later Baron Lionel de Rothschild took his seat in the House of Commons.

It is stated that the Sultan of Turkey has offered a large sum of money for the construction of a building to house his ‘ first Parliament. His Majesty has intimated that he is willing topay the cost if the civilist can sup* port the charge. An excellent impression has been caused among the people by this announcement.
