Te Aroha Football Club.
SECOND SOCIAL. On Wednesday evening last, the Te Aroha Football < lub, held their second social this year, and notwithstanding the inclement weather it was well patronised. At the first social, through some misunderstanding the Cup and caps did not arrive, so another occasion had to be taken to perform this most necessary function. This explanation is necessary as the footballers do not - want to be thought greedy in having two. socials in one year. The Hall was nicely decorated with greens and in the centre of the stage, on a platform draped with the Union Jack, the Cup was t exhibited, with caps on either side, and in front an enlarged photo of the “ Juniors ” the successful team. The floor was in tip top condition, and the music by the Te Aroha Trio was up to their usual high standard. During the evening Mr T. Mclndoe in the unavoidable absence of the Club's President, Mr O. F. Pilling, called on Mr Geo. McKee, captain, to receive on behalf of his club the cup won by them during season 1908. He hoped they would win it again and that their success would spur on the senior team He then presented the caps to the 26 players who had won them, with a neat little speech and word of encouragement for each. The capping ceremony was miuch appreciated, each recipient being cheered as he went forward, the popular captain and Secretary Mr G. McKee, and the Mascot, Master Gilbert Peat, receiving quite an ovation. . Mr Mclndoe also took occasion to thank all those present for them attendance, and all who had helped in any way during the past season, and m congratulating the Juniors on their win, hoped next season to be able to congratulate the Seniors. Another pleasing fuuction performed by Mr Mclndoe, on behalf of the club, was the presenting to Mr H. Keesing, who has been a most enthusiastic supporter, of au enlarged photo of the to un as a token of their appreciation of his kuidly he p. Mr Keesing feelingly responded. I hemembers next joined in singing or He’s a jolly good fellow,’ and gave three cheers for Mr Keesing. After a most inspiring war cry cheers were given for the President, Mr Pilling, Mr Mclndoe, and the man who scored the winning try, Mr S. McCord Dancing was then resumed ; Messrs Keesing and Maloney proving efficient M. Ls. IQC supper which was provided by Mr . W. Thomas, was all that could be desired. Dancing was continued to an early hour, all present agreeing they had a real nice evening’s amusement. The following members received caps . Messrs H. Brunton, G. B XS™ ve * Bygrave, P. Bygrave, D.
