MERICAN CATHOLICS AND LIQUOR.

To the Editor. Sir, —It may not be generally kown that there are in America ii any powerful Roman CHtholictemperarceorganisatioiis. In 1894 the Roman Catholic Bishop of Columbus, Ohio, forbade any society in bis diocese to have a saloon keeper or liquor dealer at the bead or among its officers, and ordered that no new society should admit such persous to membership. This order was sustained by the apostolic delegate at Washington, and although it applies only to the diocese refered to, it represents progressive Catholic sentiment m our entire country. The Knights of Columbus, the most influential Catholic organisation in the United States, and the largest, bars all saloon keepers andliqucrdealers of every class from its membership. It is pleasing to notice that the Labour Party here are voting No-license, and I trust that my coreligionists will do the same. (Signed ) An Irish Roman Catholic. P. S.- -In the United States at the present time there are 36,000,000 people lmng under Porhibition lair.
