There was a very good muster, over forty men and a full complement of officers and non-coms, being present. Amongst the officers present were Captain R. C. Allen (in charge ), Major Bell, 2nd Regt., Auckland M. li. Staff Sergt Major Coleman and Lieutenants Moore, Rowe and Campbell. The Sergt. Major, for about two hours, put the men through a course of drill, in extended order, diagonal marching etc., at which both men and horses acquitted themselves very creditably. The Colonel complimented the men on the big muster. Captaiu Allen intimated to those present that it was his last parade, as he is retiring from the force.

Another month has almost gone, and still nothing has been done re that Fire Brigade Shed. We are beginning to wonder if the Council are really in earnest over tho matter. It is to be hoped they are. An inspection parade of the Te Aroha Defence Rifle Club is called for Thursday evening next at 7.30 o’clock in the Public Hall. The Te Archa Footballers play Matamata on the latter's ground next Saturday. We deeply regret to have to chronicle the death of Mr Frank Bums, well-known in this town, which sad event took place at Wanganui on Sunday evening last, 20th inst. The cause of death wa 3 an acute diabetes. The death is particularly sad, as it is only so ne three months since the young fellow married Miss Etln; Patterson, eldest daughter of Mr Jamesl Patterson, of this town. We extend to the bereaved wife our heartfelt sympathy in her hour of trouble. The funeral takes place at Wanganui this ( Tuesday) afternoon. The annual meeting of the Waihou Tennis Club was held in the hall on Saturday evening last Mr Ccdveit being in the chair The Secretary, Miss H.
