Count Tolstoy’s Birthday.
St. Petersburg, September 6. The Russian Holy Synod has pronounced Count Leo Tolstoy a backslider, and has ordered believers to refrain from participation in the celebrations in honour of his 80th birthday. The Synod has directed the priests to refute his writings.
