SUMMER FEEDING EXPERIMENT.
1. The cows fed on underuorticatod eohotv cake gave the heaviest yield of milk and also the largest profit of the thrno foods tested.
2. The cows fed.on bean meal gave a heavier yield of milk than those fed on gluten meal, hut owing to the greater cost x>f the beau meal, tho profit on tho two foods are practically eqti 1.
-.3. The cows fed on gluten meal and beau meal showed a greater tendency to lay on flesh than those fed with undeeorlicated cotton cake.
4. The various foods given to the c >ws did. not appreciably influence »l.e percentage of fat or solids not fat in the milk. 7
5. The percentage of fat in both night and morning’s milk’ increased as the lacatation period advanced ; but the Solids not fat remained practically constant throughout that period. . 6. With unequal intervals the most milk was given after the longer interval but the milk contained a lower percentage of fat. 7. Slight alterations, tenci ig to make the milking intervals more nearly equal# had only slight effects upon the percentage of fat in the milk; but milk would be improved by making the day and the night intervals of the same length.
8. The milk of individual cows was frequently below tho standard of 3 jier cent. fat. 9. A fall of rain, after a period of drought, caused an immediate improvement in the fat contents of the milk.
