The Fruitgrowers’ Union of New South Wales advocates-the purchase by the Government of an orchard for demonstrating the best meats of coping with fruit pests. A bullock sold at the Addington saleyards last week, weighed, when killed and dressed, 13931 b. Five Shropshire wethers weighed 1571 b., 1611 b., 1571 b., 1551 b. and 1321 b. respectively.
It is stated that the demand fur early seed potatoes in the' Maiiawatu district this season is considerably keener than was the case last year, and if the fine weather continues seedsmen anticipate a large demand for the main crops. '

On the East Coast, too the pastures' are maintaining a verdancy quite foreign to the customary mid-winter months.
