THE LUCERNE FLEA
A destructive little pest ltnown as the “ lucerne flea ” is working havoc in some parts of South Australia. The flea is rapacious, and v seems to increase at a speed which puts the rabbit out of the race altogether ; so that, a lucerne paddock is soon absolutely at the mercy of the insects. Tli-iv are paddocks this year which are as bare as a billiard tyble, the plants having been eaten down to such an extent that their. recovery is doubtful. It is stated that the only proved effective remedy is gas-lime, applied to the paddocks affected, but it is no use treating one block of land and leaving the adjoining blocks slone.
