GOVERNMENT EXPERIMENTAL FARM.
A new and throughly uprto-date milking shed is now being put up on the Government Experimental Farm at Ruakura, as the old shed does not comply with the conditions of the new dairy regulations. This new shed, which is probably the best ventilated in the Dominion, is well worth inspection. It is about ninety feet long, sixteen feet wide, twelve feet high, and is built of massive timbers, with a concrete floor. There are ten double bails, each one being eight, feet wide, so that twenty cows can be yarded up at the same time. The bails are all fitted up with Robertson and Bonus’ patent, so that the cows can all be bailed up and lei out again without the milker having to go near their heads, by just pulling a rope. Leading to the shed is a concrete drive which connects with the yards. It is intended to milk the cows with machines driven by a small steam engine, which will also drive a separator and butter workers. Dairymen ought to take an early opportunity of seeing this most up-to-date shed where everything is kept spotlessly clean.
