FOUND DEAD

ON THE RAILWAY.

As several plate-layers were returning to Te Aroha along the railway line yesterday, about a quarter to five o’clock, they came across the body of an old man named Edward Findlay lying alongside the rails on the Waitoa side with his neck broken. The body was brought to Te Aroha and placed in a room at the rear of the Palace Hotel. How Finlay came by his untimely end is a mystery. Whether he fell off or was run into by the train is not known. An inquest will be held to-day. Up to a short time ago the deceased was working for Mr Johns, fish merchant, Te Aroha, but latterly was engaged cooking for a party camped down the Waitoa.
