Te Aroha AND Ohinemuri News.

TUESDAY, JUNE 23, 1908. STOCK SALES FOR TE AROHA.

This above all —to thine own self be true, And it must follow as the night the day Thou canst not then be false to any man Shakespeare.

In conversation with one of our leading agriculturalists the other day the question of holding the stock sales at Te Aroha came up for discussion. With the superior advantages which Te Aroha presents in the presence of a stationmaster and staff, and in view of the fact that Morrinsville has her own saleyard, the holding of the sales four miles down the line from Te Aroha seems a mistake. In addition to Te Aroha’s being the proper base of operations so far as the railway is concerned, there are other weighty advantages to be considered. It must be a matter of convenience to farmers bringing cattle to the sales that they should be brought together at a centre such as Te Aroha, instead of meeting several miles away from the bank and the various stores.

As regards the erection of saleyards, we point out that any expense which the Borough might incidentally be put to over their erection would more than pay for itself. A sale held once a month, or once a fortnight, and bye and _ bye, perhaps, weekly would contribute very considerably to the commercial progress of the town. The absence of such an institution ,as the stock sale from a town of Te Aroha’s pretensions is a thing which strikes the observer as a serious lack. It is our agriculture that we look to, and we cannot possibly go wrong in doing all that in hs lies to develop our opportunities for keeping thoroughly in touch with the district to which we belong.
