THE AMERICAN FLEET.
Let the world laugh, is a common axiom, and wil apply to a very great many at the present time in their desires and anticipations as regards the expected arrival of the (American Fleet. The strengthening (of the bands of brotherhood between nations is certainly a great matter, and deserving of every attention, but through it all we must not forget tfiat there is also the brotherhood of the individual that likewise claims our attention. Our fellowmen and women who have been standing shoulder to shoulder with us through the years, and who now find life somewhat hard, and have a difficulty in making both ends meet. There is also the possibility of allowing the enthusiasm over the coming fleet to degenerate into wasteful extravagance and foolish excess, which would be a calamity, All that friendship or courtesy requires can easily be done by reasonable attention to our invited guests and such as a young nation may afford in, so far as it makes no trespass on higher and nobler claims.
