The Butter Market.
Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., are in receipt of the market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated 3rd April, 1908. The weather though fine is on the cool side, and a little more bright sunshine is wanted to bring the pastures along.
Danish. To the surpsise of many, the quotation was yesterday reduced two kroners. From a market point of view this was unnecessary, as the butters were clearing, but it is evident the Danes are anxious to get buyers on again, also to stop if possible the increase in the demand for margarine, which at the present moment is pretty big. Siberian. Only about 2,000 casks came to baud this week; holders finding buyers did not come on at last week’s prices ' have given way slightly, and there has in consequence been a better trade and practically a clearance, New Zealand. There has been considerable delay in the delivery of butter ex s.s. “ Kaikoura,” and this has this has caused great inconvenience ond annoyance to many buyers who at the present moment are not stocking heavily, but rely on getting delivery ex these regular steamers within a reasonable time. Butters are practically sold and quality of those landed is all right. Cheese. New Zealand. These take first place at the moment, the quantity of Canadian being very small and prices normal. Market is certainly firmer and about Is over last week’s quotation is obtainable. This applies to both White and Coloured.
