Thk usual monthly mooting Council took place |in the Council ChambwS' Te Aroha, yesterday afternoon. Present Crs. T. Gavin (ohairman) C. Manuel, T. McGloin, Donaldson, Koeley, J. MoCaw. W. Main, W. Eng. •• - ' , Minutes of previous meeting read mid confirmed. Inward and outlaid correspondence dealt with.

—Correspondence— From the Treasury, Wellington, advising that the sum of £4OO had been placed to the Council's credit for payment of work done on the Gordon-Waharoa road.

From District Health Offioer reporting case of enteric within County, and advising necessary precautions to be taken. t From Defence Office, Auokland, asking information concerning any roads mad 1 bridges throughout county, and any other information that Counoil may consider flseful to the Defence Department. —Clerk to supply information. , Letter received from R. Dodd, 4nth reference to bridge erected near Ellis’ property at Matamaho, and asking when the proaehes thereto would be completed. He jp l (Dodd) had purchased Ellis’ property,.end wished to move there about the end of June* Resolved on the motion of Cr. Manuel that tenders be called in two weeks’ Seconded by Cr. McGloin and carried. _ y. From John Ryan, Waihou, re bleamng drain. He declined the offer of . £lO to ao the work. He suggested that tenders be called for the work, and in the meantime »hb would hold the Counoil liable for any damage - done to his property till the matter ia fixed :* up.—The Chairman said settlers would have to first prove that damage had been 'done.— i Councillors were of the opinion that Drain- > age Boards would solve the problem.—Cc« McGloin said that as far as was concerned the work should' be done. He moved that the work be done, provided it did not cost more than £lO. —Seconded by the Chairman and carried.

Letter read from the Secretary of the above, acknowledging Council's letter of 23rd, and stating some of the members of the Board would be visiting the mine in a few days and will go fully into the matter of the ex« , penditure of the sum voted for the tram way. The Chairman said he would endeavour to meet the Directors on arrival. —Te Aroha Traffic Bridge— The Borough Clerk advised that IZ- tendeni 1 were opened for the erection of the bridge arid ■ making approaches. The- lowest, Mr John : ‘ Murphy, of Tamahere, £7,178 15s 6d was ' accepted. —The Council derided to make application to the Governmknt for a loan to pay their portion.—The Chairman said be had been over the specifications and found, V everything fully set out. * . ' —Slaughterhouse Licenses — Applications for renewals of daughter*house licenses were received from John Rowe, Te Aroha; F. J. Marshall, Mbrrinaville ; A. H. Homes, Aratiatia; Jaa». Rutherford, Lichfield. H. Magill, of Waihou applied for transfer • and renewal of license to Thos. Farmer, Waihou. -Lioenses granted as requested.

—Road at Okoroire — From Joseph Jay, calling attention to the road'and drains between the golf links and his entrance gate* He addea that soon the , drain would be filled np. > Mr Jay stated a large number of pigs had been excavating on the road opposite bis property for the last two months, the roads rooted' up, fenoee undermined, etc. —Foreman to hafe matter attended to. —Taupo Timber Company's Line— The District Engineer of Railways advised that he had inspected the proposed site for a level crossing over the Taupo Totara Timber , Company’s line and there was no serious Departmental objection to it. The Depart^ I raent presume Ithe Council are prepared' to pay the cost of altering the fences and pro- " viding cattle stops, the probable coet of which would be about £46. —Lichfield* Waotu Road— Letter received from J. A. Food, asking that improvements be made to the surface of this road las far as it lies within the county boundaries. —Lichfiold-Putarurn Road— O *■>!/'j Letter received from L* D* Nathan ■aat’ Co., re deviation of this road and stating they did not intend to take ah active part in its promotion, though they felt perfectly' : certain that before long other residents around the station will see the necessity for. the work. They added that if the Council were prepared at any time in the future to proceed with it they would bear their share in the expense. - —Kuranui Roads—-

A long letter was received from A. E» Price, Kuranui, Morrinsville, re taking over thbse roads and pointing out the loss he had ' sustained through the Council’s delay. He hoped something of a tangible form would be, done at once.. —Lockerbie Road— From A. Hanna, barrister and solicitor, acknowledging receipt of Cotmoil’e letter .with report.
