S.M. COURT.
Tuesday last was quite a field day for Tahuna at the first sitting of the Magis trates Court held in the Phoenix Hall, and as the costs were considerably s • aller than if the cas«s had been tried else* where, no doubt the action of the authorities in holding a regular Court here will be appreciated.
HOCKEY SOCIAL.
The Ladies’ Hockey Club Social, held in the Phoenix Hall, on Wednesday night, was a great success. A very large number braved the weather, and were rewarded by a very enjoyable time, The hall was prettily decorated with ferns and flags, and the Club’s colours blue and white, which were given a prominent position, blended very pleasingly with the green of the ferns and the gay dresees of the fair sex. The floor was in excellent condition. Mr J. J. Watts supplied the music in his usual high-class style, extras being played by Misses Heath and Stewart, and Mr Stackpole. The ladies in charge of the supper arrangements deserve every credit for itß excellence, and judging from the hearty attention it received their efforts were fully appreciated. The duties of M.C were ably carried out by Mr H. Page. Datcing was continued until 2.30, and the painstaking and popular Secretary, Miss Stewart, is to be complimented for the success attained, as no donbt the Club will have a substantial credit balance as a result of the evening’s enjoyments. A special meeting of the Town Board was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present Messrs Allen (in the chair), Gu turner, Marshall, Manuel, Pickett, Parlour, and Clifford. The plans and specifications for Mr Page’s roads in Morrinsville extension No. 1 were gone into and certain alterations suggested, when if the roads were formed accordingly the Board would take them over. This concluded the business. OUB PUBLIC SCHOOL. Despite the lack of interest taken in the school by the parents, the pupils are making considerable headway during the East year. The following honours have een secured by pupils:—Nellie Boss, National Scholarship; Bobert Warren, Junior Civil Service; Ramsey Winter, 11 yearn, passed the National Scholarship Examination ; Douglas Howie, District Scholarshipwhile Phil Clifford gained first prize in the North Island in Collins’s writing competition; P. Snell also gained a prize in the same competition, which concludes a very creditable list. SHEEP IMFOBTATION. A large number of sheep are being brought into the district, Messrs Beay landed 1,000 wethers from the South on Saturday, and Messrs Manning are expecting the arrival of a line of 2,000 for their Lockabie Estate. TIMBER FOB UP-COUNTRY. The timber traffio on the Rotorua line is increasing daily. On the Thursday morning train there were twenty trucks of posts and a like number of timber. INSPECTION OF ROADS. Our Town Board is nothing if not up-to-date, as the Works Committee were observed paying the round of inspection per medium of motor car, so if the roads are always kept fit for motor traffio there will be small cause for complaints.
