PAINTERS IN PROTEST. (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) ' DUNEDIN, Tihiis Day. A painters’ deputation met Mr Arnold, M.H.R., on Tuesday, to protest. against the tariff proposal to place a duty of 25 per cent, on painters brushware. It was represented that the brushware could not be manufactured in New Zealand, and that England was the only country where this could be done. The proposal was an attack upon small, works. Steps were being taken in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch against the duty being letied. ’ ' ’

IJMr Arnold promised that on his return to Wellington he would see what could be done in the matter.
