The Kawatiri Wreck.
GALLANT RESCUE WORK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HOBART, August 15. It is alleged in connection with the wreck of the ICawatiri that when the first "boat with the women and children reached the breakwater, two foreigners, both members of the crew, jumped ashore and made off, regardless of the cries of the women and children.
Mrs Hooper, one of the six persons drowned, was the wife of an assistant at the lightnouse, and she and her two children went down within sight of home.
The stewardess (Mrs Hodnett) was the oldest stewardess in the Australian trade, and had spent almost all her life between Melbourne and Tasmanian ports. Mrs East, a passenger, was badly bruised, while landing.
