Some interesting- notes as to the law ivla-ting to various important Acts of Parliament, arc appearing in the Mercantile Ga-zeite. and a. good deal of miorniat.iiiii is imparted. In a- copy of tins Cazette just received -reference is made to I lie- A\ or'kei s’ Oompcnsat ion Act, and the points should he noted hy thosci interested. The principal are as under:—lf deceased lias met his death hy an accident his employer in most eases will he liable under this Act. and the administrator should ludt:e a claim within the Lime allowed (six months) on behalf of dependants, if any. If he neglects to do this he would probably have to make, good the loss to the dependants resulting from his omission The de-
pendants may he: Husband, wife, brother, sister, son, daughter, grandson, grundaughter, father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, stepfather, stepmother, illegitimate sow, illegitimate daughter. Moneys obtained are lor the‘benefit of dependants only. A widow with means would not. be a dec. pendant, but his children might he, or some of them might Ire and others not. A; child above the age of 21 years in poor health might bo a dependant, while one ,much younger earning its own living would not be. Act, Ol course where the widow is a j respectable woman in poor circumstances and the children are young an administrator would be safe in giving j iii all to her for her own and the chib] dren's: maintoimn.ee. If deceased has] no wife or children lie. may have a) mother or lather, etc., wholly or part-1 !y dependent- on his earnings, and the interests oi these must be ,<looked j ain.-r.
