Reuter reports that the divisional judge rejected the appeal of all Lahore rioters. NEfW YORE, Yesterday. Bonaparte initiated proceedings to compel Harriman and Mahn to answer questions relating to the Chicago-Alton railroad, the control of which they refused to answer before the Inter-State Commerce Commission. The favourite explanation in Wallstreet of yesterday’s slump in shares is that they are too much for President Roosevelt. The telegraph operators at Los Angelos struck on Friday, and the movement is rapidly spreading throughout the states. The associated press operators, at Chicago and New York struck at midnight, and the poastal company’s Western unions followed. CAPETOWM, Yesterday. Mr Watson, treasurer, delivered the budget for 1907, showing a deficit of £640,000. The estimated 1908 expenditure will reach £8,063,000, and the revenue £7,765,500. He announced retrenchments in the civil service and increase of tax on incomes above £IO,OOO ; and the establishment of an official department to promote South African industries as against imported goods.
