Shooting Match.

i; KNOCK BELT.”

WON BY SERGT. W. MAINGAY. The half-yearly competition for the above belt was fired at the range on Saturday asternoon last, in fine weather, when no less than eighteen members of the corps entered, but only some twelve turning up to shoot, which is the largest for some years. The company is evidently making a fresh start in shooting, and unless it is keen in its shooting and give every facility to its members to become good shots, under most scientific lines, it can never expect to see them winning the New Zealand Defence Forces Rifle Association’s Belt,, or the King’s Prize. On looking over the names it was hard to say who would prove the winner as some of the company’s best shots were present. However the winner turned up in Sergeant Maingay, after a very close finish. The longer ranges being taken first for fear the light would fail, and on coming to the 200yds Sergt. Wallace was in the lead with eight points, Maingay one point behind him ; but Maingay proved himself by putting on the possible and winning by one point. Lieutenant Campbell, of Morrinsville, was in charge of the shooling. The ranges were 600, 500, 300 and 200 yards, five shots at each, under Government class-firing rules. The following are the individual scores:—
